How to Visit

Are you planning to visit the Douro Valley? From Quinta do Vallado to Niepoort, we’ll happily act as your advisors for your trip to ensure a smooth, adventurous and moreover unforgettable time in our region along the Douro river.

Arrival

Book your flight arriving to Oporto Airport (OPO) in Northern Portugal. You can get here easily by making a pit stop in Lisbon, Madrid or Frankfurt/Main.

From there on, we recommend renting a car, which offers you flexibility and freedom to discover our valley. If renting a car is not an option, you can also take a taxi (Prices vary, but a one-way-trip to the Douro Valley will cost you about 120,- Euros) or go by train (it is however rather infrequent, and won’t get you to every Quinta).

It’s also very convenient to start from Porto and go straight on the highway to Vila Nova de Foz Côa (2 hours and 15 minutes), if you want to start your visit at Quinta do Vale Meão or Casa do Rio (Quinta do Vallado). Our tip? Stay at least 2 and ½ days, so you can have a relaxed journey, visit two Quintas per day and truly grasp the beauty of our Valley along the Douro river.

Navigating through the Douro Valley

Our hills are steep, and you will certainly have to drive many serpentines before you can enjoy an ideal view of our vineyards. We therefore advise you to rent a small car.

If you travel in a larger group, please keep in mind to rent a small bus. The streets in the picturesque middle section of the Douro Valley are often narrow and we want you to stay safe while visiting us!

If you go by bus, beware of legal requirements: A bus driver needs to have a 12-hour break overnight. This is tracked by a device and inspections are very strict. If you want to have shorter breaks, please talk to your bus company in advance.

If you want to come from Porto by train, you can book a ticket to Quinta do Vallado (train station Peso da Régua), Quinta do Crasto (Ferrão) and Quinta do Vale Meão (Pocinho). We suggest to take a taxi or to organize a pickup with one of our wineries, as it’s still a little distance from the train stations.

Visit the Douro Boys

We are excited to welcome you at our wineries. Once you arrive in the Douro Valley, you can stay at some our wine hotels, taste our ports and wines and book tours directly with us!

However, we don’t all live in the Douro. To prevent you from waiting in front of closed gates, please let us know, when you want to come around to visit.

Although, our Quintas are all situated in the                                                              valley, the Douro river is long! So, please beware                                                      of the distances between some of the wineries.                                                          Find out the distances (and our favorite route)                                                    below:
